2 Days in Novi Sad, Serbia

I never thought we’d end up in Serbia on our European travels, but somehow we did as we made our way through the Balkans. We had a quick stay in Novi Sad and were lucky enough to witness the 100th year celebration of their futbol club – man can they throw a party!

The other event that I would try to go for is the EXIT festival. It’s one of Europe’s most popular music festivals and takes place in July every year. If you can schedule your trip around that, you will have an experience on another level.

Leaving the festivals out, here is how I would spend 2 days in Novi Sad (which in my opinion is the prefect amount of time).

Day 1 in Novi Sad

AM  Tour the city center – Start around Svetozar Miletic Square and find the Cathedral and Town Hall. Walk down the pedestrian Dunavska Street and admire the architecture like the Bishop’s Palace.
PM
Enjoy a nice stroll and rest in Danube Park and then climb to the top of the Petrovaradin fortress. You will be treated to an amazing panoramic of the city and a big bell tower telling the time in a new way.

Day 2 in Novi Sad

AM The Strand Beach – a man made beach on the Danube River with big speakers, a playground and bars. You can get in for about 50cents and spend the morning or the whole day.

PM If you want to step away from the beach, you can walk the strand nearby and get a little exercise in on the equipment or watch a game of tennis.

Something doesn’t interest you, or have more time? Here are some more ideas:

Add On Activities/Day Trips for Novi Sad

Sremski Karlovci – a beautiful small town just outside of Novi Sad (about 15 min) full of old historical buildings; you can stroll the streets, and visit the Cathedral and market square

Fruška Gora – another small town outside of Novi Sad (just under an hour), good to visit if you like to see monasteries or if you want to hike in the National Park
