Lunch at Bottega Louie

In the heart of downtown LA, Bottega Louie offers an exceptional meal and dessert in a space that makes you feel like you’re living the high life. An open space covered with marble floors and sky high ceilings, it is a sleek and upscale experience but also has an element of relaxed, casual hang out café.

At the peak of the lunch rush, there was a small wait, but I was seated relatively quickly by a smiling host and was able to browse the Patisserie while I waited – it had me giddy for dessert!

After ordering, I noticed that I had to talk a little bit louder to converse with my table, as the sound throughout the restaurant seemed to be amplified by the design. None the less, it wasn’t too bad that I couldn’t hear, and the service was pretty quick.

The food overall was very delicious. I was able to sample a few things:

Bruschetta – This came piled high with tomatoes, which I actually liked. A lot of them fell off while trying to eat it, but I actually enjoyed scooping up the fallen pieces with my fork. It was a good dish, but I would have preferred a little but more balsamic drizzle, especially with the amount of tomatoes.

Steak Salad – yummy and filling! The steak was served just how I like (medium rare), and was a good serving for the size of the salad. I thought the chimichurri sauce paired well, and I was glad that it did not overpower the whole dish.

Burrata Pizza – Another win. Burrata cheese and prosciutto just go together, but what makes this pizza unique is the rapini added in. I really enjoyed it, and the pizza was cooked perfectly with a charred and crispy crust.

Portobello Mushroom Fries – I am a sucker for truffle fries, and now I’m a sucker for mushroom fries. These were delicious. They are served with an aioli sauce which I also really enjoyed.

Macaroons – This is what they are famous for. They make them fresh every day, and they are pretty good. It’s hard for me to say ‘best ever’ because I’m honestly not the biggest macaron fan in general, but they come in a variety a flavors and the box they come in is super cute.

Beignet – I did truly enjoy the beignet. It was fresh, soft and melted in my mouth. I would go back for another one of these.
