The Colonial Terrace

A tree lined lane parallel to the beach leads you to the beautiful grounds of the Colonial Terrace. Upon arriving you can’t help but notice the beautiful gardens, immediately making you feel as if you’ve entered an oasis.

When checking in, we were greeted by a very friendly receptionist who offered coffee, tea and cookies while waiting for our keys. We were told that they were complimentary everyday starting at 4pm in the lobby – my kind of service!

At check in, we also learned that breakfast was served in the lobby, and that they would provide flashlights if we wanted to take a walk after sunset. (This turned out to be so useful because it gets very, very dark).

As we walked through the grounds to our room, we passed a variety of outdoor seating for lounging. There was also a nice patio table with a fireplace that I wish we would have gotten the chance to use.

We stayed for our honeymoon and found that the room was secluded and intimate in a very romantic setting. It was something a little extra to be able to hear the waves crashing before going to sleep at night. The room itself was not 5 star luxury, but it was still very nice, spacious and comfortable with a cozy fireplace near the bed. The bathroom in our particular room was also a bit lackluster, but it was clean and served its purpose.

A huge benefit of this Inn is that it is so close to the beach. You can easily make it for sunrise or sunset, and you have an easy home base if you are spending the day at the beach. It is also in a great location if you want to go into Carmel village and grab a bite to eat or do some shopping. It’s a very quick drive, but only a 10-15 minute pleasant walk.

In the morning, we were pleasantly surprised at the quality of breakfast and a friendly staff. It is a continental breakfast, but the addition of fruit, granola and hard boiled eggs was great to have in addition to all of the bread and pastries.

I highly recommend the Colonial Terrace for your next stay in the picturesque beach town of Carmel.
